Online Backgammon Strategy

Many beginners may rush playing Backgammon claiming they do not need the strategy. Although there are still many aspects to consider like when to rush ahead and when to slow down, when to hit and when to ignore.

The following strategies describe various aspects of the game you are to consider when choosing how to play the game. The strategies provided below are aimed at improving the game of both new and advanced players.

Distribution of Checkers

This backgammon strategy can be explained by the fact that the more options of movement your checkers have, the bigger your winning chances are. Moreover, the advantageous position of the checkers influences the player odds as the player may choose the best option of how to play his/her checkers from a number of good alternatives. It is always not advised to leave five or more checkers on one point as this decreases the number of available moves and results in a forced move.

Exposure

It is a common thing for beginners to worry when they leave shots. However, according to most professionals, leaving shots is the essential thing in some strategies. But it is important to know when exactly you may or may not leave them. It is wise to avoid them when your opposite’s home is a strong one as it might be difficult to escape. Early shots are less risky than all the other ones.

When you lead, the backgammon strategy advice is to keep your lead and not to let the opposite player come back in the game by leaving any shots.

Running

The Running game backgammon strategy is only then a wise decision when your pip count is a high one including large doubles and sixes. This backgammon strategy allows you to gain an advantage in the game and use it later.

Blocking

In case your opponent has been more lucky than you and has rolled higher dice, it is advised to use the Blocking backgammon strategy to hold back some of his checkers in your home board. To provide this you should build a prime not to let your opponent move forward. This backgammon strategy requires lucky dice rolls.

Back Game

Desperate situations require desperate solutions. The Back game strategy is the option that may be chosen only in hopeless situations. According to this backgammon strategy, when the opposite player rolls better dice, the player leaves two or more defensive blots (anchors) for as long as possible hoping that the player may leave a shot thus providing you the opportunity to hit it and block your opponents moves with a built prime in order to gain a bigger advantage. This backgammon strategy allows you to win a gammon or even a backgammon. It is advised that this game is held for desperate situations.

Anchoring

Anchoring is considered by far the best backgammon strategy as it means establishing defensive points in the opponent’s home board to re-enter the board in case of a hit and prevents your opponent from preparing the board for the bearing off. Moreover, two anchors on the home board brings a high advantage and allows you to prepare your home in order to block the opponent’s checkers.
